Professional Boundaries and Ethics

Description

School-based professionals must maintain a balance between being supportive, empathic, and understanding, yet professional at the same time. Since the process of therapy can conflict with tasks requested by other school personnel, setting boundaries skillfully with colleagues and students is essential. This process is becoming more complicated as communication is increasingly digital, text based, and exists on a variety of social media platforms. This training explores the nature of boundary issues in a school setting by looking at five different risk areas and offering communication strategies.

Learning Objectives

  • Review boundary concepts and terminology

  • Examine ethical considerations with examples

  • Introduce a decision-making process for ethical dilemmas
