Boundaries and Self-Disclosure

Description

It is often difficult to know the cultural significance of personal disclosure in a school setting. Used skillfully, self-disclosure can be an effective tool for building rapport and creating a trusting therapeutic relationship. Self-disclosure presents risks and benefits to both the school professional and the student. It is important to plan for responses to questions and ensure any personal disclosures are intentional and for the benefit of the progress of the student receiving services. This class explores best practices in this area through a cultural and equity lens.
