Social Justice and Serving the Transgender Community

Description

As the number of transgender people accessing human services increases, so must our ability to serve them. The transgender community is disproportionately impacted by homelessness, poverty, and violence with severe obstacles to resources. This is compounded upon by systematic oppression, pathologization, institutional disenfranchisement, and a lack of education among providers. In order to foster affirming, inclusive services we must obtain an understanding for the community’s unique needs and the barriers that prevent them from being met. This training will educate participants on how to better serve the trans community by explaining culturally relevant language, discussing trans experiences, analyzing clinical best practice, and providing tools for competent services and increasing access to gender related healthcare.

  • Learn relevant language regarding the identities and experiences of transgender people

  • Learn clinical best practice serving the transgender community
