Advanced De-escalation

Practicing the skills

Description

In this class we practice the Pause, Listen, Respond skills from the foundational class. In addition, this session takes learners into areas where advanced understanding and application of the skills is required to safely navigate the situation including: working with groups of people, people who are intoxicated, or in a state of shutdown. The session explores what to do when de-escalation is not working, including calling for help and working effectively and with public safety professionals and coworkers. The session concludes with notes on follow up and debriefing for staff who are stressed by a difficult incident.
