Eating Disorders

It’s not about the food

Description

Eating disorders often go unnoticed by those close to the individual who is struggling, including helping professionals. One reason is that they are shrouded in secrecy and social stigma. Unfortunately, the social isolation associated with the Covid-19 pandemic has worsened the problem and increased their prevalence. This training provides participants with a thorough review of the most common eating disorders, their likely causes, and descriptions of corresponding behaviors. With improved understanding, it’s possible to avoid many of the common mistakes that people make when trying to help.

Learning Objectives

  • Introduce the different eating disorder diagnoses and common symptoms

  • Identify how mental health challenges can underly and co-occur with eating disorders

  • Cite specific things to do and not do when talking with someone who has an eating disorder

  • Explore evidence-based treatments
