Burnout is a general term that describes the chronic and cumulative effect of different stresses at work and how it negatively impacts the worker’s health and wellbeing. In the case of the helping professions this problem is made worse by chronic exposure to others’ trauma which left unchecked can lead to Compassion Fatigue. The erosion of compassion and empathy affects a worker’s effectiveness in helping others, rendering the worker ineffective and lacking confidence. This class explores this field, the nature of compassion satisfaction, and offers strategies for cultivating resilience and compassion satisfaction that are both self and team-care oriented.
