Adult ADHD: From challenges to superpowers

Description

This class is for individuals, friends, family members, mental health students, graduates, or workers, or others who are interested in learning about Adult ADHD. This course will address the most current research findings on identifying and diagnosing adult ADHD, addressing comorbidities, looking at best practice treatment planning and interventions, and increasing awareness of the most common provider pitfalls when working with diagnosed or undiagnosed ADHD.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will learn culturally relevant information about the neurodivergent (ND) movement and its impact on adult ADHD-ers, as well as the implications of this type of advocacy on the neurotypical (NT)/general population at large.

  • Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how and why Adult ADHD gets frequently overlooked or misdiagnosed.

  • Participants will learn 3 prominent myths about adult ADHD and their corresponding truths.

  • Participants will learn several hallmark ADHD challenges and behaviors, as well as several superpowers that can accompany those living with ADHD.

  • Participants will leave the course with specific interventions and skills that they can start using immediately with their clients, as well using culturally sensitive and inclusion-based language with family members and friends.

Emily Marrs, MA, LMFT is a group practice therapist at Healthwise Behavioral Health and Wellness. She is an energetic, enthusiastic trainer who loves being involved in psychoeducation with her colleagues, clients, and others in the community who are interested in learning more about her areas of clinical focus and specialties. These topics include adult ADHD, body focused repetitive behaviors such as Trichotillomania/Dermatillomania and additionally, more relational based concerns such as Narcissistic abuse and recovery. Emily uses several models of therapy with her clients including ACT, mindful CBT, Behavioral, Adlerian, and Family Systems.

Emily has 12 + years of solo and group private practice work under her belt, and 6 years of care coordination/case management experience, the latter with socioeconomic challenged populations and those with severe and persistent mental illness. In her free time, Emily sings with her band, the Emily Marrs Band, which she created in 2005. She also loves spending time with her own and other’s fur babies, as well as traveling.
