Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Evidence-based therapy that focuses on skills

Description

Without practical skills to deal with stress, emotions, and interpersonal conflict, many people live a life of pain and turbulent relationships. Although they are doing the best they can, their old survival strategies destroy relationships and keep them stuck. This frustrating “dialectic” needs to be resolved before the person can move forward and change their life. This class explores DBT, a skill-based treatment protocol for a wide range of mental health problems, including suicidality, borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, and many others.

Learning Objectives

  • Define the dialectic and explore the theory and history of DBT

  • Examine the 4 Pillars of DBT

  • Practice skills that are applicable to many people and their situation

  • Apply knowledge of DBT skills to scenarios
