Communication strategies for “disordered” personality traits
Personality disorders are characterized by behavior patterns that create problems in relationships with other people, including loved ones and caregivers. One challenge for the helper is that it is hard to confront these patterns while maintaining rapport. This class describes personality disorders by thinking about what personality is and how we use it to navigate our lives. The training also practices communication techniques for common situations that arise because of the disorders.
Define personality to understand the nature of a disorder
Distinguish between personality disorders and other mental health challenges
Review DSM 5 criteria and descriptions
Practice skills for effective communication
