Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Description

This course reviews the current research on Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the two symptom clusters clinicians look for, and the conditions, like anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders, that so often travel alongside it. You'll also spend time with a newer, strengths-based framework called VAST (Variable Attention Stimulus Trait), which treats these patterns less like a deficit and more like a different operating system, one with real trade-offs worth understanding rather than simply correcting. Most importantly, the class highlights the common pitfalls both professionals and everyday people run into when working with someone who may have ADHD, so you leave with language and interventions that actually help maintain relationships.

Learning Objectives

  • Build a working vocabulary around neurotypical, neurodiverse, and neurodivergent, and see where adult ADHD fits

  • Recognize common co-occurring conditions (anxiety, depression, OCD, autism, trauma) that complicate diagnosis

  • Identify medication, lifestyle, and support strategies that help those with ADHD thrive
